Is it safe to take Gaviscon Extra Strength tablets daily?

I have acid reflux, and I do not want to take the drug my doctor I was prescribed because it makes me lose my appetite and my weight has dropped considerably. I just started to use Gaviscon Extra Strength, and I feel that it works very well for me, so I wonder if it is safe to continue using it indefinitely. If you have useful information and experience with this drug, please let me know. Thank you (:
