Which Knife Set to Buy?

I am looking for a knife set for my wife's birthday. The best values I've found are Anolon Brunello set and Cuisinart Continental set. Any thoughts? It seems like a lot of people like Chicago Cutlery, this is cheaper, is there a difference in quality?

As a woman, one of the best knifes to ever fit my hand (no matter what brand) is an 8" Santoku. They are excellent, and since you are shopping for your wife I recomend finding a set with one. If not, both brands you mentioned are great quality sets. Chicago is just a bit more prolific because it tends to run cheaper. I would go with the Anolon, personally, but only if I couldn't get my favorite: Wustoff.

Just make sure you think they are the right size for her hand; they should have a good weight and ballance; always get a knife with a full tang; plastic handels are worthless in my opinion (slick when wet is real bad for a knife); and don't store them in a drawer or wooden block.

(Those pretty wooden display blocks are absolute breeding grounds for bacteria, and no one ever thinks to wash a knife before using it. Drawers just dull knives and occasionally get you or someone else cut. Get one of those magnetic knife strips from a culinary store to keep your knifes sharp and the people in your kitchen safe.)

Edited to Add:
I think a great set of knives would be a great gift, but then again I love to cook. Good knives are expensive, they last for ever, are very useful, and still aren't something that people just "treat" themselves to. I think it will be an awesome gift, if your wife is passionate about cooking.
