Quality Turkey
Posted on Friday, April 16th, 2010 at 2:06 pmCan you compare Wild Turkey (the drink) and Crown Royal?
I know my husband likes Wild Turkey and I THINK he likes Crown...but I can't remember...and I want to get him some. Are they similar? If so, how? Are they different, and if so, how? Which do you think is better? Which is higher quality?
Correct Crown Royal is a Canadian whisky, and is made from the rye grain, is barrel aged for 3-5 years and does have a different finish to Wild Turkey.
Wild Turkey is a bourbon, made from corn and aged in charred oak barrel for a minimum of 3 year under Kentucky law, it is a bit stronger as it is not tempered after aging the same as Crown Royal (which is not blended, Rye Whiskys are a straight single product).
I am a veteran Scotch, Bourbon, Jack Daniels and Canadian/Irish whisky drinker, as a former chef who worked here Canada in all but 3 provinces and in Singapore, Tokyo and Jamaica, I have had my share, Bourbon has a mellower vanilla and smoky taste were Canadian whisky has a headier more earthy taste, and like bourbon is best enjoyed straight on on the rocks, not mixed( that is for inferior whiskys or bourbons)
If I were you find a liqour outlet that sells the gift tins and get him one of both, he will appreicate you more and maybe reciprocate for you.
