Quill Feathers

its the kind that you dip in oil...
well when i dip it i have to re-dip about 4-5 words later...is this normal? or am i dipping wrong?
am i supposed to dip it and tip it upside down so i can "load" the inside part of it with ink?

modern fountain pens have ink fillers which are inserted .
