Rooster Neck

Is this normal rooster behavior?

we got some chickens from a friend and all the roosters but 1 got sent to the "freezer coop" the other day and ever sense the one rooster left has been pecking the hens and then eating the feathers and pecking their necks! (he was always the sweet one out of the group of roosters) i was wondering if this is just normal behavior for roosters. (we have never had roosters before, just hens) thanks a bunch!

If you have chickens who are eating feathers it may be that you are dealing with a nutritional deficiency. Poultry need feed that has adequate protein, and if you are feeding your chickens just cracked corn, or scratch, you need to boost the protein.

Poultry do best on a balanced diet, feeding your chickens a commercial layer food is your best bet.

Chickens also pick at each other if they are stressed, for example by a lack of space. Do you birds have enough room to run around (preferably outside?) If not, consider expanding their pen to give them more room.

Below is a link that talks more about feather picking. Best of luck with it!
