I have a rose haired tarantula, I had her for already two months. She is the nicest friendliest 8 legged chic you have seen. I always hold her and carry her around. But lately, since Thursday, when I have tried to grab her she freaks out and throws her back hairs, and last night she bite the envelope I used to test to see if she was still pissy.
At first I thought it was because you are supposed to leave them alone when they are going to molt, but it has already been 5 days she is like this and I see no signs of molting, or could it be that the room temperature is very cold and she is pissed?
Any ideas?
Just leave her be, unfortunately, an adult rose hair can be in premolt for months.. On the bright side though, once she does molt, she'll probably be good for a couple years..
They don't really get grouchy when it's cooler, it's normal for it to get down to 50 at night where it's from.. All they do is get a bit slower and have less of an appetite..
In general, if a tarantula is grouchy, leave it alone. If you bought it as an adult from a pet store, it's probably wild caught.. If it is female, it could even be gravid..
