The vampires in Blood-Rose Guardians are intelligent, caring people, although they do form magical alliances, I have no intention of including werewolfs (lycans), shape-shifters who could be mistaken as werewolfs or dogs in any of the books. So many vampire books/series do now, so I'm kind of wondering am I not aiming for the right target audience if I take keep them out of the books? In addition, there is nothing sparkly about the vampires. Some are male, some are female, some are young, some are old (depending on when they were turned of course), some are good, some are bad - kind of like real people with fangs and a certain blood-lust. Do readers actually want vampires who sparkle? I don't....hmmmmm!
Non-sparkly vampires = GOOD. You couldn't get away with writing sparkly vampires anyway. That idea was Meyer's and to use it without asking her permission would be breaching copyright laws. You could get sued.
The use of lycans/werewolves/shapeshifters is Your Choice. There's no harm in using them, and no harm in not using them.
