so why "nerds" naturally attracted to things like WoW, stars wars and crap like that?

I am puzzled as to why there is such a stereotyped and almost universal attraction in the nerd community on things like world of crafts war, star wars, warhammer, Harry Potter, cheese wiz, hentai, anime, RPGing and countless other things we "normal" people are not obsessed or interested in these subjects. its almost as if its a disease they have. All opinions thoughts on this? This is a serious issue.
