How do I change a machine head button that isnt screw fit. I have a vintage guitar.?

I have a vintage lapsteel and need to replace just the buttons on the machines as they got melted by the previous owners. These machines are not available any more, but buttons are readily available. They are not the screw on type, so how do they fit? Cheers, Dave

They are in all likelihood molded right on to the shaft of the tuner. In that case your only option is to find replacement tuners and swap out the tuners you have now. You might want to find a good vintage instrument store near you and talk to them. Something like Mandolin Brothers, Elderly Instruments, McCabe's, or Buffalo Brothers.
