Green Dots

What does it mean when green form points on your aquarium?

had my fish tank for a while now that four months and a sly 5 gallons. with five small fish less than 4 inches each, and ive recently noticed that some very small green dots began to appear on the glass tank which is exactly that and what I do?? Sorry a made a mistake I meant 75 gallons, very sorry lol.

This is known as green algae, and can be removed by purchasing an algae eater fish, snails are also good for this kind of thing. Sometimes, especially in tank that are attached directly to or near windows that causes direct sunlight to coming into the tank. Also leaving the aquarium light on a very long time also causes algae, the light should be on just 8 hours, but I really do not recommend leaving them in unless the shell is in a room completely dark because the light is only to see the fish, you should therefore try to reduce the time the light is on unless you have real plants in the tank, then as I said 8 hours is sufficient. It are also sponges and tablets used to remove the algae, but I recommend an algae eater or a snail, because they work much better, do not freak out, because the algae is not made for a dramatic effect on your tank, it just means you got too much light. Take a look this link, a lot of information: http://www.aquariumpros.com/articles/algae.shtml
