What does it mean when gray feathers fall down on you?

I was outside my work sitting under the portcullis and i heard a "poof" and gray Bird Feathers just starting falling down on me, i didnt see a bird it just sounded like a whoop poof sound and there was no bird body? it was bizarre

birds can explode if they eat too much rice the starch swells up their stomaches and their is sort of a pop sound these bird feathers may be from a bird that recently had its last meal before happening to fly over your portcullis
