Wooden Crosses
Posted in Ribbons | No Comments »In 'Three Wooden Crosses' by Randy Travis, why are there only three crosses?
1. Farmer
2. Teacher
3. Preacher
4. Bus Driver?
5. Driver of the 18-wheeler?
There should be five wooden crosses. The bus was hit in the front, which is where the bus driver, farmer, teacher, and preacher sat. The hooker obviously was sitting in the back of the bus, to stay away from her righteous busmates, which ended up saving her life. The song implies that nobody cares much about drivers, to the point that no wooden crosses were planted for them.
the song is not about the drivers. but the passengers.
Thus the reason for the 3 crosses...
The bus was not hit in the front.. the bus was hit on the side. because the semi could not stop, and it hit the bus broad sided. as the op said probably where the preacher, teacher and farmer were sitting. the hooker and the driver did not get hurt because they were on either end of the bus from where it got hit.
The semi dirver was not hurt because he sits so far up off the ground
